มูลนิธิหัวใจแห่งประเทศไทย (The Heart Foundation of Thailand under The Royal Patronage)

ประวัติความเป็นมา
มูลนิธิหัวใจแห่งประเทศไทย ถือกำเนิดมาจากความคิดริเริ่มของสมาชิกสมาคมแพทย์โรคหัวใจแห่งประเทศไทย ในพระบรมราชูปถัมภ์ โดยที่สมาคมแพทย์โรคหัวใจแห่งประเทศไทย ซึ่งได้รับการก่อตั้งในปี พ.ศ. 2510 ได้กระทำหน้าที่เป็นสื่อกลางให้มีการพบปะแลกเปลี่ยนความรู้ ในหมู่สมาชิกและจัดกิจกรรมส่งเสริมความรู้ในหมู่แพทย์ มีการประชุมวิชาการ ส่งเสริมการวิจัยเรื่องโรคหัวใจ เผยแพร่ความรู้แก่ประชาชนผ่านสื่อมวลชนแขนงต่าง ๆ รวมถึงการติดต่อจากต่างประเทศสมาชิกของสมาคมฯ ตระหนักถึงภาระความรับผิดชอบต่อผู้ป่วยโรคหัวใจที่ยากจน และเห็นว่าการก่อตั้งมูลนิธิหัวใจแห่งประเทศไทย จะทำให้สามารถหาทุนได้มากขึ้น และจะสามารถขยายงานช่วยเหลือผู้ป่วยได้กว้างขวางขึ้น

นอกจากนั้นการก่อตั้งมูลนิธิหัวใจ เพื่อส่งเสริมงานของสมาคมแพทย์โรคหัวใจก็เป็นสิ่งที่ปฏิบัติกันในหมู่ประเทศสมาชิกของสหพันธ์ สมาคมแพทย์โรคหัวใจนานาชาติ (International Society and Federation of Cardiology) ดังนั้นในการประชุมใหญ่วิสามัญ เมื่อเดือนสิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2524 จึงได้มีมติเป็นเอกฉันท์ ให้จัดตั้ง มูลนิธิหัวใจแห่งประเทศไทยขึ้น โดยสมาคมแพทย์โรคหัวใจฯ บริจาคเงิน จำนวน 200,000 บาท เป็นทุนเริ่มต้นในการก่อตั้ง มูลนิธิหัวใจฯ และได้รับการจดทะเบียนอย่างเป็นทางการ เมื่อวันที่ 27 พฤษภาคม พ.ศ. 2525 โดยมีชื่อเป็นภาษาอังกฤษว่า The Heart Foundation of Thailand และได้รับการรับรองจากสหพันธ์สมาคมแพทย์โรคหัวใจนานาชาติ เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2528  ในปี 2545 พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ พระราชทานพระมหากรุณาให้มูลนิธิหัวใจแห่งประเทศไทย อยู่ในพระบรมราชูปถัมภ์ ตั้งแต่วันที่ 10 มิถุนายน 2545

วัตถุประสงค์ 
1. ส่งเสริมเผยแพร่ความรู้ เรื่องหัวใจและโรคหัวใจแก่ประชาชน

2. ส่งเสริม และปฏิบัติการเพื่อป้องกันและรักษาโรคหัวใจและโรคอื่นๆ อันจะนำอันตรายหรือความพิการมาสู่หัวใจ

3. ส่งเสริม เผยแพร่ อบรม เพื่อเพิ่มความรู้ ความสามารถแก่แพทย์ พยาบาล และผู้ปฏิบัติงานเกี่ยวกับหัวใจ

4. ส่งเสริมและให้ทุนอุดหนุนการวิจัยเกี่ยวกับหัวใจ โรคหัวใจ การป้องกัน และรักษาโรคหัวใจ

5. ช่วยเหลือผู้ป่วยโรคหัวใจ หรือผู้ป่วยโรคอื่น ๆ ซึ่งจะทำให้หัวใจพิการ ได้เข้ารับการรักษาตามความเหมาะสม

6. ร่วมมือส่งเสริมและประสานงานกับสถาบันอื่นทั้งในและนอกประเทศ เพื่อดำเนินการตามวัตถุประสงค์ของมูลนิธินี้ และเพื่อสาธารณะประโยชน์อื่น ๆ ทั้งนี้ที่ไม่เกี่ยวกับการเมือง

An idea of forming the heart foundation was originated among members of the Heart Association of Thailand which was established in 1967. For many years, the association has been a center of activities in Cardiology such as organizing regular medical meetings, promotion and support of research projects, public education and international relation. In order to be able to raise fund for poor patients with heart diseases and expand more activities such as public education, the foundation is established to work side by side with the associations. This is a common practice among other national heart associations.

Therefore during the special meeting of the Heart Association of Thailand in August 1981, members unanimously agreed on the formation of the Heart Foundation of Thailand with an initial operating fund of two hundred thousand baht from the Heart Association of Thailand. The Foundation was officially established in May 1982 under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and in 1985 was approved by International Society and Federation of Cardiology now called World Heart federation.

Objectives
To promote are provide public education on heart and heart diseases.

To promote and provide support for the prevention and treatment of heart diseases and related ailments that will endanger or disable the heart.

To encourage and / or provide continuing education on heart disease for physicians, nurses and paramedical personnels.

To provide financial aid for conducting research related to preventive and therapeutic aspects of heart diseases.
To provide assistance to patients with heart diseases to get appropiate care and  treatment.

To cooperate, promote and coordinate with local and international institutions to fulfill objectives of the Foundation.
